The city of Denver is located in one of the most solar friendly climates in the country and many people have already taken advantage of it. Denver has streamlined solar permitting where most solar projects are able to obtain a permit in one day with fees capped at $50 for solar permits. In 2017, SolSmart awarded a gold designation to the City and County of Denver to recognize them as a leader in solar energy.
During the 2018 Clean Energy Business Buyer’s Summit, Mayor Hancock was honored with the Public Official of the Year award from COSEIA.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for the work that Denver is doing to push our city forward in addressing the real issues of climate change and working toward an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy future”
- Mayor Hancock
In July 2018, the city released its 80x50 Climate Action Plan that Mayor Hancock had set for the city in 2015. Denver is currently on track to meet its 2020 climate goal to reduce carbon emissions to 1990 levels with the help of Xcel Energy. Denver and Xcel have created Solar Rebates and Incentives which have greatly helped Denver lead the country in using renewable energy.
