Aqua Care Solar will help you keep your spa or pool healthy. We service both commercial and residential pools and spas.

trained professionals test and balance the water to make sure the PH, Bromine or Chlorine, Total Alkalinity, and Calcium levels are all where they should be. We also offer several solutions that clean the water without chemicals, such as ozone generators and ultraviolet lights. Connect with our technicians for more information.

Don’t forget, solar thermal systems will reduce the rising cost of heating your pool and spa.

Water Chemistry

Balancing
The water in your tub or pool should be chemically in balance, for best operational results. This will optimize water disinfection, and keep your water looking and smelling clean. Please keep in mind, products used to raise and lower the Total Alkalinity will also effect the pH levels. This is why the process is called water balancing.

With plaster pools and spas, adjust the Calcium level first.

Total Alkalinity Level (TA)
Perform a Total Alkalinity test and adjust the first range to be 80-120ppm (parts per million). Add TA Up (Alkalinity increaser / Baking Soda) 1oz at a time to raise the TA. Add PH Down 1 Tablespoon at a time to lower the TA.

Acidity Level (PH)
The pH range should be 7.4 - 7.6. This is the optimum range for chlorine or bromine. pH is effected by many parameters - a single human body in the water or a couple of dead leaves will effect the pH. To lower the pH add 1 Tablespoon of DRY ACID (or pH Down) at a time between retesting. To raise the pH add pH Rise (or Baking Soda if the TA is under 80 ppm).

Calcium Hardness Level
This is an element of your water that cannot be lowered by chemical additives but can be increased when necessary. 100-150 ppm makes the water easier to balance. If you have soft water, add 1oz of Calcium Hardness when you are filling the tub / pool - and add more later when you are adding water. If hardness is high, anti-scaling additives may be necessary and pH must be strictly corrected. When Calcium Hardness is too high, reduce water in the tub / pool and add new water without adding calcium hardness - thereby diluting it. For plaster pools, maintaining 250 ppm works well and helps to protect your plaster from damage, when the water used is soft.

Ozonators

An ozonator (ozone generator) is a great way to keep your spa and pool clean with fewer added chemicals, especially when coupled with an Ultraviolet light system.

aquacare pool What is Ozone?

  • Ozone is nature's special element - it is "active oxygen" o3 and o1 (not o2)
  • Ozone is a natural purifier
  • Ozone is created in nature by the combination of oxygen atoms by UV rays from the sun
  • Ozone is the "clean, fresh" scent - noticed after a rainstorm
  • Ozone is the most powerful, safe oxidizer used today
  • Ozone is a safe alternative and can be used with traditional chemicals in water purification - such as chlorine and bromine

What does Ozone Do ?

  • Ozone high in the atmosphere is a UV blocker, and protects us from deadly radiation at ground level
  • Ozone destroys bacteria, viruses, mold and mildew
  • Ozone eliminates spores, cysts, yeast and fungus
  • Ozone oxidizes iron, sulfur, manganese and hydrogen sulfate
  • Ozone eliminates other contaminates in the water
  • Ozone eliminates odors in the air - such as smoke
  • Ozone keeps water clean and clear
  • Ozone keeps water fresh

Why is Ozone Healthy?

  • Ozone will not leave any chemical residue on the skin
  • Ozone will not discolor or damage hair and clothing
  • Ozone adds no contaminants or by-products to water
  • Ozone rids air and water of micro-organisms
  • Ozone is not a carcinogen when used in a hot tub or pool
  • Ozone has been used to purify water since the late 1800's

Hot Tub Tips

aquacare pool
  • DO NOT EVER ... get into a hot tub that looks or smells bad.
  • YOU MUST ... use a sanitizer. Ozone, Bromine or Chlorine are the most common. If you prefer to minimize the use of chemicals you can also have an Ultra Violet light supply plumbed onto your hot tub to aid sanitization.
  • If you want to minimize the use of Chlorine/Bromine, you can add an Ultra Violet light (UV) unit, and or an ozonantor to the plumbing on your hot tub or pool to aid water sanitization.
  • A TEST KIT MUST BE USED to test for your sanitizer, alkalinity, pH and calcium hardness.
  • SANITIZER LEVEL, tested in Parts per Million (ppm) must be: Bromine / Chlorine 1.5 Minimum – 3 ppm Maximum
  • SCUM DIGESTER (a natural enzyme) should be used at least once a week to breakdown body oils that will have been deposited in the water and plumbing.
  • NON CHLORINE SHOCK ... should be used at least once a week. This is an oxygen shock therapy for the water to help sanitization.
  • READ ALL LABELS AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON ALL CHEMICALS USED.
